A Prayer for Strength When You Have Nothing Left
This is written to be said out loud, exactly as it is. You don't have to mean all of it yet.
God, I'm empty.
Not dramatic. Not in crisis. Just worn down further than I know how to explain, and still expected to function tomorrow.
I've been running on something that ran out a while ago, and I kept going anyway, and I think that's why I can't feel much of anything now.
You said You give power to the weak. I'm not coming to You strong and asking for more. I'm coming with nothing, which Your Word says is the qualification, not the disqualification.
Carry what I can't carry today. Not all of it. Today's part.
Give me enough for the next thing in front of me — the shift, the conversation, the drive home. Not the year. The next thing.
And where I've been holding something that was never mine to hold, show me, and give me the courage to set it down.
I don't have much left. What's left is Yours.
Amen.
One line for the worst moments
“God, carry this part. I've got nothing.”
Short enough to say in a parking lot, a bathroom, or the ten seconds before you walk back into a room.
The verse underneath this prayer
“He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength.…”Isaiah 40:29-31, WEB (excerpt)
Read who it's addressed to. Not the strong who want more. The ones who have no might. Emptiness is the entry condition.
When you can't feel the prayer
You may say all of that and feel exactly nothing. That doesn't mean it didn't count.
“The Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to pray as we ought.…”Romans 8:26, WEB (excerpt)
Not knowing how is described as normal. The answer to it isn't better praying — it's Someone praying from inside you when you can't.
Praying without performing
You don't need better words. God has never once been fooled by the edited version, and there's no evidence He prefers it.
If this is more than tiredness
Exhaustion that doesn't lift with rest, or comes with not wanting to be here, is worth talking to a doctor or counselor about. That's not a lack of faith — it's the same as getting a persistent cough looked at. If you need help right now, it's here.
