This policy explains, in plain language, what information This Was For You collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible — this website exists to encourage you, not to harvest your data.

What we collect

Your first name and email address, if you choose to give them. When you request the free 30-Day Devotion Guide, you can enter this information either on our signup page or through an invitation shown on certain pages of this website. The information you submit is sent to Kit, our email service, which handles the signup and confirmation process. If you confirm your email address, we use it to deliver your guide and send This Was For You encouragement. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Messages you send us. If you email hello@thiswasforyou.org, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. Please don't send sensitive personal, medical, or financial information by email.

We do not ask for, and do not want, payment card numbers, government ID numbers, or health information.

How we use it

We use your email to deliver the resource you requested and to send This Was For You content and updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops those emails. We do not sell your personal information.

Services we work with

This Was For You uses a small set of outside services. Each handles information under its own terms, agreements, and privacy practices:

Kit is our email service. Kit processes subscriber information on our behalf to provide email signup, delivery, and subscriber-management services. Kit's processing of newsletter subscriber data is governed by its Data Processing Addendum; Kit's Privacy Policy explains Kit's own privacy practices.

Netlify hosts this website and processes technical information necessary to deliver, secure, and operate the site. This may include information such as IP address, device/browser information, request data, and similar technical information used to provide the hosting service. Netlify's privacy policy

Squarespace is our domain registrar and manages the domain's DNS records — it does not host this website. Squarespace's privacy policy

Google Workspace provides our business email service. If you email hello@thiswasforyou.org, Google processes the message and related email information as part of providing the email service. Google Privacy Policy

Etsy processes payments for purchases made through our shop. We receive the order and transaction information needed to manage the purchase, but Etsy does not pass buyers' secure credit-card or bank-account information to us. See Etsy's privacy policy.

Videos on our homepage are hosted on this website itself and play in your browser's built-in video player. No Facebook, Meta, or other third-party player is embedded, and viewing or playing them does not send information to Meta. Each video also links to the original post on our Facebook page; if you choose to follow that link, Facebook's own privacy policy and cookie policy apply there.

Analytics and cookies

We use two measurement tools, and we deliberately keep them off the pages where you are most likely to be carrying something private.

Google Analytics (loaded through Google Tag Manager) helps us understand how people find this site and which general pages they visit — for example, whether a link from one of our videos brought you here, and whether the free guide is being found. It uses cookies and may collect your IP address, device and browser information, and the pages you view. We have not enabled Google Signals, User-ID, or advertising-personalization features. Meta Pixel lets us see, in aggregate, whether people who saw our Facebook or Instagram content also visited this site. It sets cookies and sends Meta technical information such as your IP address, browser details, and the general page you viewed. Meta Privacy Policy · Meta ad settings

Where these tools are not present. Neither Google Analytics nor Meta Pixel is installed on our Need Help Now page or on the Recovery, Rebuilding, Trusting God, or Prayer sections. They are also not installed on the individual Christian Encouragement or Bible Verses article pages. The two top-level Christian Encouragement and Bible Verses hub pages are measured, along with the homepage, The Rebuilders, Free Guide, Resources, Contact, Our Approach, and the legal pages. Simply loading an excluded page does not send a Google Analytics or Meta Pixel request.

We do not send Google or Meta anything you type into a form, your email address, your name, or the contents of any prayer or message. We do not use a cookie banner; you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, and the site works fully without them.

Our website host may also use technical cookies needed to deliver the site.

Your choices

Unsubscribe anytime using the link in any email from us. You can email hello@thiswasforyou.org to ask about information we control or request that it be deleted. Some information held by third-party services may need to be handled through those services and may be retained where required or permitted by their policies or applicable law.

Children

This website and our email list are intended for adults and are not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us an email address, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date. Meaningful changes will be reflected here rather than buried.
